Heart On My Sleeve

One Woman's Journey Through Mid-Life: ReFashioning, ReDefining, ReNewing

“Delta”

I love images of hands–it must be the crafter and musician in me!

I notice men’s hands before I notice their bodies, their eyes before their shoulders.  And I love this poem by Adrienne Rich

Delta

by Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)

If you have taken this rubble for my past
raking through for fragments you could sell
know that I long ago moved on
deeper into the heart of the matter

If you think you can grasp me, think again:
my story flows in more than one direction
a delta springing form the river bed
with its five fingers spread

Love the poem. Did you create the picture?

  2. Cate – I love this poem on so many levels, and what you said about noticing men’s eyes and hands. You can see so much in them, no? In everyone, not just men…
